ABILITY SCORES
Determine Ability Scores: Start by generating your character's ability scores. These six scores determine your character's most basic attributes, used to determine what areas each character excels in and what areas they struggle with. Roll 3d6 and add the dice together. Record this total and repeat the process until you generate six numbers. Assign one number to each of the character abilities as you choose. You may re-roll if the total of your modifiers is negative or equal to zero.
Each ability has a modifier associated with it that adds or subtracts from dice rolls while using that ability. Modifiers range from -3 to +3. The modifier is always derived from the current ability score. Write the modifier in parentheses next to the ability associated with it.
Magic can increase or decrease modifiers within a range of -5 to +5 usually on a temporary or conditional basis.
These modifiers are NOT the same as the modern d20 ability score modifiers. Notice the curve .
